NCAA Clears Turner

NCAA Clears Turner

Perhaps the biggest news that came out media day was unexpected. Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson, between questions from out-of-state reporters about being the fifth Red Wolves coach in five years, said former East Poinsett County standout A.J. Turner, who transferred from the University of Arkansas, has been cleared by the NCAA to play this season.

“Now it is up to A.J. to have a good summer and finish strong,’’ said Anderson.

“I don’t know if he is someone who will start, but we he will be on the field.”

Turner was named to the SEC All-Freshman team after the 2012 season at Arkansas. He sat out the 2013 season with an injury then transferred to AState.

Since Turner was at Arkansas during the 2013 season he required an NCAA waiver in order to be eligible this season. He still has to meet academic requirements to be eligible for this season.
