Bussey Talks AState Commitment
A 6-foot-2, 285 pounds, Bussey decided it was the right time to go ahead and make his commitment to Arkansas State. He chose to Red Wolves over offers from Memphis, South Alabama, UAB, Samford, Western Kentucky and Jacksonville State.
He was one of four commitments for the Red Wolves on Saturday, the first day of the Big Pack Weekend. Also on Saturday, offensive lineman Christian Castleberry of Mesquite, Texas, linebacker Kirk Louis, Jr of Baton Rouge, La., and running back Devante Williams of Moody, Ala. , of Moody, Ala. Defensive lineman Fred Brown, a defensive tackle from Hahnville, La., committed on Friday.
“I had no idea the stadium was that big,’’ he said. “And they told me there were going to add more. I said, ‘Dog, you are going to add more seats?’ It was great. I loved the school.
“We got into town and first thing I see it all the stores painted up Go Red Wolves, you could tell the community was behind the football team.
“I just loved it. I don’t see how any other offer will compare to Arkansas State. They might compare, but it will not be like the family atmosphere.
“It came down to Arkansas State was just like home. “
Bussey earned first team Class 2A All-State last season for Lanett, which located close to Auburn.
“I first saw Arkansas State playing Oregon on TV,’’ he said. “So I started following them. Then I got an offer from them.”
Lead recruiter on Bussey was Trooper Taylor. “That man is hilarious,’’ he said.
They join other A-State commits -- defensive linemen Javier Carbonell of Bentonville, Ray Rudolph of Kilgore (Texas) College, Elontae Batemen of Memphis Ridgeway and Donovan Ransom of Garland, Texas; safety- linebacker Dre Greenlaw of Fayetteville, tight end Mikhail Jacobs of New Orleans Landry-Walker, receivers Jaylon Marshall and Darveon Brown of Warren, quarterback D.J. Pearson of Duluth (Ga.) Northview, receiver Julian Jones of Atlanta Westlake and running back Earl Harrison of Ridgeway.
