Will You Be Able to See the Vols Game?
Currently a number of major television providers in Arkansas have not reached an agreement to carry the new network.
Among providers without an agreement are:
Suddenlink, Comcast/Xfinity, Direct TV, Paragould Light, Water, and Cable, Pine Bluff Cable, White County Cable, Independence County Cable, Alliance Communications, Conway Corp, Cobridge, Fusion Media, and most other smaller cable companies.
The only large providers in the state currently with agreements are AT&T U-Verse and Dish Network.
The good news for AState fans is that the new network will have no more than two AState football games over the next three years, Tennessee this year and possibly Auburn in 2016. The 2015 game against Missouri is under the Sun Belt media contract.
While these sports network carriage deals used to get ironed regularly at the last minute, of late that hasn't been the case.
The Pac-12 Networks are still not available on Direct TV and is reported to reach possibly less than 50 million homes. A network is generally not considered "national" until it reaches between 75 million and 90 million homes.
The vaunted Longhorn Network that provided the spark for Texas A&M to leave the Big XII is in around 20 million homes after two seasons and still has no agreement with Direct TV or Comcast.
The simplest solution for Red Wolves fans receiving TV from a provider that hasn't signed on will be to attend the game or start scouting out watch party locations with the game, unless you really feel compelled to beg your TV provider to boost your bill by more than $15 a year to cover two games in three years.
