Red Wolves Get Commit from Marshall
"There have been a lot of schools that have come down here to watch us practice and they have been in contact with me, but it means a lot to me to be the first school to offer me, and that was Arkansas State," said Brown, who is 6-foot, 170-pound and reports a 4.5 40 time,
That played a major role in his commitment to the Red Wolves, which came Saturday and was one of three for A-State before noon. Memphis Ridgeway running back Earl Harrison started the morning with his commitment. Arkansas State has four commitments now. Fayetteville linebacker Dre Greenway committed to the Red Wolves on signing day in February.
He made a visit to Jonesboro in March and again for the spring game.
"I had never been to Jonesboro and did not know what to expect,'' he said. "I thought it was going to be a little old school, like UAM. I was really impressed with what I saw up there. It was a pretty big deal. And it is going to get a lot better."
Brown was the starting quarterback on junior high team but broke his arm before the season started and missed that year. He was promoted to the varsity late in the year but did not see any action. He was a regular as a sophomore, but did not record any stats.
As a junior last season he caught 33 passes for 800 yards and8 TDs. He had a top game of 7 catches for 170 yards against Pulaski Academy.
He also plays safety for the Lumberjacks, who are traditionally one of the top Class 4A teams in the state.
"I am like an Iron Man," he said. I never come off the field, offense, defense, special teams.
"But I prefer offense. I feel like there is not a cornerback who can cover me. I have not played againt once yet."
