Former A-State Player Killed

A former Arkansas State football player died late last night as the result of a traffic accident in Shelby County, Tennessee.

Torrance Suggs, a native of West Memphis, and a 4-year letterman at ASU between 1993-1996, apparently lost control of his Shelby County's Sheriff's Department patrol car in an off-duty accident near the Shelby and Fayette county line in west Tennessee.

Memphis television station WMC reports that Suggs' vehicle is believed to have struck a construction trailer that was on the side of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Suggs was thought to be on his way to work when the accident occured. He had been employed by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department since 2007.

Suggs was a standout football player at West Memphis High School in the early 90s as a tight end/defensive end-linebacker before continuing his football career at ASU as a linebacker for Coach John Bobo. Recommended Stories
