Might as Well Be Today

Before "I'm home" Gus Malazahn went "home" to Auburn the goals were set. Be regular member of the top 25, play in the BCS and win.

Meeting with fans in Little Rock before introducing Bryan Harsin, Terry Mohajir said Arkansas State will play in the BCS, the only question is when.

I fully understand Jeff's argument about today not being essential to A-State because when you run through the goal list, Auburn is not essential to winning the Sun Belt the way Troy is, not essential to declaring firmly and strongly that Arkansas State is THE best non-AQ in our region like Memphis is, and it is not essential to making a bowl.

The are other goals to shoot for that make Auburn huge.

Arkansas State might be able to crack the Top 25 at the end of the year without beating Auburn but we know from consecutive 10-3 seasons that is not guaranteed. Only once has the BCS buster made it without going undefeated and that was the special circumstance of an AQ league champion being ranked worse than 16. That is unlikely this year and even then thanks to the MAC title game, NIU had won 12 games on the season.

Without question, Arkansas State can meet many of the season goals without Auburn, but a win today is the only way to meet all the goals.

A-State has moved part of the way toward the goal by picking by some as an upset special today. It's too late for A-State to be a program that sneaks up on other teams. Sure there are plenty of fan bases who believe the two time Sun Belt champs cannot put a team on the field worthy of their multi-star recruiting classes but coaching staffs know better.

I'm fired up for today because today presents a chance to reach the bigger goals and as they say down in Alabama, I feel like I'm jacked up off Mountain Dew.
