Gus Malzahn and the Arkansas State Red Wolves picked up their 10th commitment of the Class of 2013 here Thursday afternoon when Bentonville Arkansas’ linebacker Garrett Kaufman pulled the trigger and became a Red Wolf.
Kaufman, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker, is the fifth commitment from the State of Arkansas and the 10th overall for Malzahn’s coaching staff.
AStateNation.com spoke to Kaufman about the big news.
“This is a really great day for me,” Kaufman admitted. “I just committed to Arkansas State.”
According to Kaufman, he has been talking to his parents everyday for the last month or so prior to making the decision.
“I feel good about my decision,” Kaufman said. “The Arkansas State coaches really did a great job of making me feel at home. I took visits to several other schools and I just didn’t get the same feeling that I did at ASU.”
Kaufman has recently visited the University of Arkansas, Rice, and several other Ivey League schools. He has cancelled his scheduled trip to Vanderbilt.
“It’s going to be great to represent my home state,” Kaufman said. “Coach Malzahn is building something special at ASU.”
Kaufman said that the ASU coaching staff was very excited about the news.
“Coach was extremely excited about my decision,” Kaufman said. “He asked me if I was 110 percent in, I told him yes sir I’m a Red Wolf for life.”
