Gus Malzahn and the Arkansas State Red Wolves picked up their ninth overall commitment and their fourth from their home state of Arkansas here Thursday evening when Parkers Chapel HS athlete Phillip Hay of El Dorado pulled the trigger.

Hay spoke to AStateNation.com about his recent decision.

"Who wouldn't want to play for Gus Malzahn," Hay said Thursday evening. "I loved my trip up there, I loved the coaching staff, I loved everything about Arkansas State."

Hay took an unofficial visit to Jonesboro last week and came away very impressed with ASU.

Hay had thought about waiting to make a decision, but decided he better not wait too long to become a Red Wolf.

"The more I thought about it, the more I realized it was the place for me," Hay said. "I knew it was where I wanted to spend my college years."

Hay, a 6-foot-0, 175-pound athlete, impressed ASU coaches when he attended a camp there last month.

"When I ran a 4.41 at their camp you could tell they were really interested in me, that's a great feeling to have."

Hay currently has offers from Arkansas State, Navy and several smaller schools.

"They told me that I was a top priority for them," Hay said. "They were very excited about my decision. They are telling me that they are signing me as an athlete put I will most likely play corner back for them."
