Cajuns Rebound with Overtime Win

Lafayette-- Arkansas Stats’s Marcus Hooten hit a three-point shot with seven-seconds left in regulation to force the Cajuns into overtime for the third straight home game Saturday night.

Louisiana (15-12, 9-4 Sun Belt) went on a 14-2 run take a six-point lead when Kadeem Coleby hit a jumper with 7:05 left in the game. A dunk by Malcoln Kirkland with 3:01 to go tied the game at 53-53. The lead changed three more times before Hooten's three forced the overtime.

Overtime was back and fourth with two lead changes and two ties, with neither team leading by more than three. Freshman point-guard Elfrid Payton’s three-point play with 2:20 remaining in overtime gave the Ragin’ Cajuns momentum.

Payton would later draw a charging foul on Marcus Hooten at the 20 second mark of overtime. ASU’s Marcus Townsel would attempt a three-pointer that feel short and was rebounded and putback in by forward Brandon Peterson with 1.3 seconds left in the game. Junior Raymone Andrews was fouled on the inbounds and made both free throws with .7 seconds left on the clock and for the win.

The Red Wolves shot 41.7% (25-60) in the game while UL shot 44% (22-50). The Ragin' Cajuns edged ASU in the battle of the boards 36-35 and while ASU added 15 turnovers on the night.

Bryant Mbamalu led the Ragin' Cajuns with 16 points, while Darshawn McClellan came off the bench to score 12.
