It's easy to see that Arkansas State is doing a better job recruiting than the Red Wolves have done in recent years.

Coach Hugh Freeze has brought a new fresh and aggressive approach to recruiting, resulting in 14 commitments for the Red Wolves compared to just one this time last year.

It's also obvious that Freeze and his staff are having a lot of success both on the football field and the recruiting trail. Several top prospects list Arkansas State in being in the mix, with several listing the Red Wolves as their favorites.

One such athlete is Alabama's defensive end John Youngblood.

AStateNation.com caught up with Youngblood Wednesday night to get an update on his recruitment.

"It's going great," Youngblood said. "I picked up a new offer last week from Troy, Arkansas State is recruiting me the hardest probably out of all the teams."

When asked about Arkansas State, Youngblood was quick to replay.

"I just got off the phone with my recruiting Coach (Tyler) Siskey and Coach (Hugh) Freeze," Youngblood said. "They were telling me how exciting their game Saturday against ULL was going to be."

How does the Red Wolves stand with the defensive standout?

"They are probably my top school right now," Youngblood said. "I love the fact that they are graduating six defensive linemen and I know I would have a great opportunity to come in and play early. I get hand written notes from their entire coaching staff."

Youngblood is also very impressed with the ASU Coaching staff.

"Coach Siskey is great," Youngblood said. "I really like the fact that Coach Chris Kiffin would be my defensive line coach, he is a great coach. Coach Freeze told me tonight how important I was to him and his team."

Youngblood plans on taking an unofficial trip to Troy this weekend and a trip to Auburn the next week.

"I haven't ever been to a football game at Troy before," Youngblood said. "I want to go down and check things out."

Youngblood is uncertain when he will make a final decision.

"Probably sometime in December or January," Youngblood said. "I'm not sure yet, but probably will make a decision before February."
